01 — Welcome

Welcome

Congratulations on signing up for The Concrete Protector Training Seminar. You have taken a real step toward building a stronger coatings business, and we are excited to welcome you to our corporate facility in Lima, Ohio.

This Pre-Training Study Guide is designed to help you get ready for two of the most important days you will spend working on your coatings business this year. During your two-day training, you will receive hands-on instruction with our award-winning product systems, including GraniFlex™, Metallic Marble, Rustic Concrete Wood, Grand Flagstone, Ashlar Slate, CP Sealer, Surface Preparation, Warrior Equipment, Shot Blasting, Concrete Repair & more.

Before class, complete the Shareholder’s Vision Course and the Needs & Solutions Assessment (also called NASA Alignment). These tools help us understand your goals, your current business, your needs, and the best next steps for you. If your spouse, business partner, or key decision-maker is part of this journey, walk through this guide with them before training.

  • What you have already completed & what comes next
  • What the Fast Pass is
  • How your Decorative Concrete University account works
  • How your TCP Webstore credit works
  • What the training days look like
  • What equipment packages are available & what financing may look like
  • What to bring, where to stay, and what to ask your Business Development Rep

When Do You Decide?

You can decide before training by taking the Fast Pass (Section 5), or after training during a Week 1 or 2 follow-up. Training happens either way. The Fast Pass just accelerates you from Customer to Client. The Fast Pass is not a commitment to the Client path — it’s a head start. You can still choose Customer at the end of training, and your I-Card and DCU access stay yours.

What Our Most Successful Contractors Choose

We have seen a consistent pattern: our most successful contractors choose the Client path. Not because we pushed them here, but because they wanted the custom plan, the marketing, and the coaching.

The Shield Paths — Client Growth Levels

If you choose the Client path, here is the map. Seven growth levels, L1 through L7. You level up as the business grows. Our training guide and coaching programs are built to meet you where you are and help you make forward-moving progress toward your goals.

Level Name Gross Revenue What Is Happening
1 Product User $0–$10K Activated. Doing first jobs. Learning.
2 Contractor $10K–$250K Building the business. Earning with TCP systems.
3 Dealer $250K–$500K Established. Growing. I-BOS + I-Market proving out.
4 Dealer Pro $500K–$750K Scaling. Possibly multi-crew. Systems mature.
5 Certified Dealership $750K–$1.25M Systematizing the model into a repeatable, franchiseable operation.
6 Go Red $1.25M+ (3–5 yrs) Multiply. Multiple crews or franchise the model out.
7 Go Blue $1M+ (5–7 yrs) Retail / Showroom / Service. Standalone start OR bolt-on for a mature L6 operator.

05 — The Fast Pass

The Fast Pass

For contractors who want to move fast — start learning & earning before class even starts.

You have 2 to 8 weeks between now and training. That time can either sit idle or give you a head start. The Fast Pass is optional, and training class happens either way. It gets you a free meeting with our Client Success Engineer and a 1:1 “Getting What You Want” lesson. You are still welcome to the “Getting What You Want” workshop that happens every month two weeks after training class.

Your deposit does not disappear. If you take the Fast Pass, $199 of your existing deposit activates your Incredible Character Card. The remaining $300 stays in your TCP Webstore account, ready to spend on Day 1.

“Know thyself. Know thy team. Know thy enemy. Face a thousand battles.”— Joe Quick (after Sun Tzu)

If You Skip It

Your full $499 stays as webstore credit. Everything in the Fast Pass except the Incredible Character Card is still available in DCU — we just run through it after training instead of before. Your B.D.R. checks in during Week 1 and Week 2 post-training.

07 — Your TCP Webstore

Your TCP Webstore

Every registrant gets a TCP Webstore account. This is where your deposit credit lives and where you order after training.

After spending your first $3,300 you can request Contractor “Flooring Installation Company” (FICO) pricing — 5%–26% discounts across different tiered products.

Why It Matters

  • 24/7 ordering — place orders any time you need product, not just when the office is open. Get ahead of the shipping line.
  • Your credit is loaded — $300 remaining (if Fast Pass) or full $499 (if you opt out) waiting in your account.
  • Order history + tracking — every invoice, every shipment, all in one place.
  • Eligible for Reward Credits — Marketing Bucks.

Your deposit becomes a Webstore credit and may be applied to anything we sell: our T.E.M.P. (Training, Equipment, Marketing, Products), any tools, kits, university, etc.

08 — Shareholders Vision

Shareholders Vision

Before you learn how to do the work, you need to know why the work matters.

As a shareholder in your own business, you own the equity, the upside, and the risk. The Shareholders Vision Course helps you and the other shareholders in your business get aligned on what you actually want out of it, with real dollar amounts and timeframes attached to each goal.

“Vision without traction is hallucination.”— Gino Wickman

Why Before Training

Most contractors spend more time planning their vacation than their business. They have never sat down with their spouse or business partner and put dollar amounts and dates on what they want from the business. This course makes you do it. Complete it and know what you want with clear objectives.

Go Do This

  • Sign up to DCU with our training-only free link: decorativeconcreteu.com/starterbundle
  • Find the Shareholders Vision Course in your course list
  • Work through it with your decision partner (spouse, business partner, whoever matters)
  • Bring your notes to the Client Success Engineer meeting

This course is free for training registrants. Normally $500. If you show up at training without doing this work, you will still learn — but if you do this work first, training becomes a completely different experience. You already know what you want. Now you learn how to get what you want.

09 — NASA Alignment

NASA Alignment

Needs and Solutions Alignment — a short form your Business Development Representative sends. It tells us where you are so we can serve you where you’re going.

Section The Question Why
Business Stage Brand new / Adding coatings / Need better systems / Scaling Tailors advice to where you are
Goals What makes training a win. Income target. Lines up the right equipment tier
Equipment Own grinders or vacuums? Startup approach? Tells us what you can run Day 1
Market Focus Which systems. Who you want to serve. Trainers emphasize your priority systems first
Readiness Starting jobs when? Financing interest? Preps financing options if needed

Go Do This: When your Business Development Representative sends the NASA link, complete it within 48 hours. Be honest. No wrong answers. The more we know, the better we serve you.

11 — How Contractors Make Money

How Contractors Make Money

“Knowing how to do it is one thing. Knowing how to make money doing it — that’s the purpose of this class.”

Real contractors. Real numbers. Real plans. These are actual targets contractors set with our team in recent Getting What You Want Workshops.

Case 1 — Part-Time, Side Hustle

S.W. — Illinois

Focus: Pool Decks

Net Profit $50,000
Niche Pool decks
Equipment Rental to start

Why it works: Starting small. Pool decks in the Illinois market mean fewer competitors and premium pricing. $50K net part-time is real money on the side.

Case 2 — Full-Time, Year One

H.B. & J.P. — Artisan Concrete Coatings

Focus: Rustic Concrete Wood, high-end residential

Gross Revenue $300,000
Net Profit $100,000
Project Count 13 projects
Labor Cost $2.66/sqft
Marketing $46,000/yr

Why it works: They picked a niche and built the numbers backwards from their profit target, committing to the marketing budget that drives the leads that drive the projects.

Case 3 — Scaling, Multi-Crew

T. — Florida

Focus: High-end services

Revenue $1,000,000
Profit Margin 30–35%
Market Florida, high-end
Equipment Full tier

Why it works: Playing at scale. High-end market, premium pricing, committed to the equipment and the crew. At 30–35% net on $1M, that’s a business that supports a family and keeps growing.

12 — Case Studies

Case Studies

Our case studies give you a real, unfiltered look at what is truly possible. Instead of relying on claims alone, you see the actual numbers — real results from real people.

Whether you are just starting to explore the opportunity or looking for concrete proof to share with someone else, downloading our case studies lets the hard data do the talking. See exactly what others have achieved and what those numbers can mean for you.

13 — The Boots & The Suits

The Boots & The Suits

Two learning tracks. Both matter. Skills without business don’t pay. Business without skills doesn’t deliver.

The Boots — How To Transform Concrete

Equipment & Surface Prep Grinding, shot blasting, acid washing. Match prep method to substrate and system.
Installation Operations Mixing, priming, broadcasting, sealing. Complete installs station by station.
Protect, Repair, Design GraniFlex, Rustic Concrete Wood, Metallic Marble, Neat Coat Epoxy, Scientific Concrete Polishing, CP Sealer, Concrete Repair, Joint Fill.

The Suits — How To Transform Income

Incredible Proven Process Product User to Expert Dealership. Real contractors who walked it. Incredible Business Operating System.
Compound Marketing Direct mail, digital, referrals, I-Market.
Selling & Estimating Price profitability. Present to homeowners. Close with confidence.

The Offers — Your Next Steps

End of Day 2, we lay out what’s next: Agreements (theirs & ours — what TCP commits to, what you commit to); The Journey Paths (Customer or Client); and I-Learn, I-BOS, I-Market (the continued education and systems).

14 — TCP Product Systems

TCP Product Systems

GraniFlex™ Decorative Resurfacing System

This one system alone separates us from all others — 590% elongation. Forever flexible, it cures tough as a vehicle tire inside your concrete on interior & exterior applications. The main product (PermaFlex) has a long, long pot life; all it can ever do in your bucket is form a thin skin you can peel off, mix, and use for the next coat.

Epoxy or polyaspartic broadcast systems simply do not work on exterior applications — they can’t hold back the vapor pressure. PermaFlex’s flexible “tentacle-like fingers” penetrate deep into the slab; when moisture vapor presses against them they expand and swell tightly against the concrete capillaries, making it impossible to blow the coating off.

1–1.5 hour set times for both prime and broadcast coats. One-day installs from prime coat to top seal coat while profiting around $4–$8 a sq. ft.

Cementitious texture system

Cementitious Texture Systems

The two main ingredients are High Density (HD) Resin combined with Texture Mix. Endless textures and designs, colored with our water-based stain systems.

Why our system is better: Most resins in the industry are lower-quality Grade B and Grade C. The Concrete Protector only uses the highest-quality Grade A resin — our texture outperforms the competition by bonding at twice the lbs per square inch in adhesion pull tests, over 600 lbs with concrete failure.

User friendly: Long working times and easy texturing make our cement system a favorite of new and seasoned veterans alike. Texture at your own pace without the stress of fast-setting, crumbling mixes.

Design, Texture & Color

When selling texture systems, promote three concepts: Design (the pattern — tile, wood plank, flagstone), Texture, and Color (integral color & stain). Besides wood grain, most contractors sell three textures: Tuscan Slate (a knock-down finish), Venetian Stone (solid-coverage trowel finish, like our Grand Flagstone), and Sprayed (applied with a hopper gun or Graco RTX sprayer).

Rustic Concrete Wood

Almost 20 years ago we were invited to the World of Concrete in Las Vegas as featured Artisans to showcase our Rustic Concrete Wood system — and ever since, everyone has been attempting to copy the look. Our proven techniques & staining methods make the original better than all others. One of the highest profit-per-sq-ft finishes we teach.

Texture technique: Sprayed or Magic Troweled (then textured with modified broom).
Products: Texture Mix, HD Resin, Mineral Pigment, Stencil Tape. Water-based stains.
Sealing: Interior — Neat Coat Epoxy (1–2 coats) plus optional urethane. Exterior — two coats of Acrylic 25 or Barricade 50 mixed 1:1 with approved solvent.

Grand Flagstone finish

Grand Flagstone

Another popular design/texture we teach. Patios, porches, pool decks, or wherever your client wants a flagstone-looking surface. Low contractor cost means high profits for you. After prep, a bucket, drill & trowel is all the equipment needed to create beautiful stone textures.

Texture technique: Venetian Stone.
Products: Texture Mix, HD Resin, Mineral Pigment, Stencil Tape. Water-based stains. Sealing same as Rustic Concrete Wood.

Ashlar Slate

Ashlar Slate is a particular pattern — random squares and rectangles. A very popular look that, done correctly with the right texture and stain, makes you a hero in the mind of your clients (and fattens your wallet with referrals).

  1. Mix Resin
  2. Mix and apply base coat of texture mix
  3. Day 2 — design Ashlar pattern and trowel Venetian Stone texture
  4. Mixing & troweling Venetian Stone texture

Texture technique: Venetian Stone or Tuscan Slate. For a seamless look with no grout lines: Tuscan Slate.

Metallic Marble

A much deeper coloring effect than any acid stain or dye. Our reflective color pigments create a 3-dimensional effect that’s not achieved with any other flooring system.

Metallic Marble floor

123 System floor

123 System

Our resinous 123 floor system is an awesome option for large areas you want to coat with a chemical-resistant, seamless “clean floor” look — a solid color epoxy with a urethane coating. Easy to install and a low price point for the customer. Don’t overlook this highly profitable system: on large square footage, profits add up fast.

Day 1: Floor prep (shot blast / diamond grind), apply Base Coat Epoxy. Day 2: Apply colored ProtectorThane. Day 3: Apply colored ProtectorThane top coat.

Epoxy Flake Systems

Clean-looking and easy to install — a highly desired look for any interior surface. High demand for beautiful, easy-to-clean garage, basement & industrial floors makes the Protector Flake one of your bread-and-butter systems. An alternative to granite or terrazzo with much more versatility.

Ingredients: Concrete Protector Base Coat Epoxy (Part A & B), Colored Flakes or Quartz, Clear Top Coats.

Epoxy flake floor

Clean & Seal

Concrete Protector Penetrating Hydrophobic Concrete Sealer protects concrete from rainwater, freeze-thaw cycles, road salts, de-icers, and other hazards. It penetrates deep into the pores and seals the surface without changing the appearance or texture of the concrete.

  1. Pressure Wash: Thoroughly clean the concrete with a professional pressure washer paired with a hover scrubber. Proper cleaning is critical for penetration and bond.
  2. Prep & Dry: Clear debris, tape off adjacent surfaces, and allow the concrete to transition from wet to damp. Standing water compromises penetration; bone-dry concrete in hot conditions can flash-dry.
  3. Apply Sealer: Mix per spec and apply with a pump sprayer in manageable sections. Spread evenly with a push broom to eliminate puddles. Goes on milky white and dries clear within minutes, so you can track coverage as you work.

How To Earn Quick / Extra Money

Many contractors charge $0.50–$0.90/sq ft for 1,000+ sq ft and $0.60–$1.50/sq ft under 1,000 sq ft (some charge $1.75+). Your cost is about $0.09–$0.17/sq ft. Example: 1,300 sq ft at $0.50/sq ft is a $650 sale using 3 bottles of concentrated sealer — about $430 profit for a few hours of power washing and spraying.

CP Sealer is for selling a “Clean & Seal” application on plain concrete (it’s not an acrylic sealer). It does not change the color or texture of the surface. Resources: CP Sealer VideosPenetrating Sealer Manual

15 — Equipment Packages

Equipment Packages

The three core equipment packages. Each is built around a 4-head grinder. From there, every package follows the same ladder: base equipment, add-on prep lane, add-on generator, and the full business-in-a-box with ABI and marketing. What You Are Really Comparing

Every package does every TCP system. The difference is speed, power, weight, and scale.

  • Tomahawk — entry tier. Planetary grinder. Solo operator, residential focus.
  • Samson — middle tier. Rotary + Traction Drive. More muscle, less fatigue on long days.
  • Leonidas — top tier. Planetary + Traction Drive. The workhorse. Big jobs, commercial, multi-crew.

Add-On Ladder (Same For All Three Tiers)

  • Add-On #1 (Prep Lane): ~$12,500–$12,650. Hum-B hand grinder for edge work, SB-6 shot blaster, dust shrouds, arrow cups, Y-connector, magnetic broom, 50 lb bag shot. Turns any job site into a controlled environment.
  • Add-On #2 (Generator): ~$13,267. 18KW Warrior Generator. 480V/240V/120V, 3-phase or single-phase. Run anywhere — no shore power required. Essential for new construction, remote pool decks, and commercial sites without power.

16 — Financing

Financing

Most contractors finance equipment through Taycor Financial. Knowing your options ahead of time means decisions at training feel obvious instead of rushed.

Partner

Taycor Financial

Terms

36–60 months

Rates

Typically 9–12% APR. Actual rate depends on credit, time in business, and deal structure.

Monthly Payment Examples

Planning numbers at real market rates. We’d rather show you honest numbers than best-case rates you may not qualify for.

Package (Base) Total 48 mo / 9% 60 mo / 12%
Tomahawk 2047 $17,814 ~$443/mo ~$396/mo
Samson 2756 TD $22,873 ~$569/mo ~$509/mo
Leonidas 2795 TD $30,746 ~$765/mo ~$684/mo

These are base-equipment payments. Add-ons (prep lane, generator, ABI + marketing) can be financed together or separately. Note on term length: a 5-year term at 12% often lands lower per month than a 4-year term at 9%. Longer terms ease monthly cash-flow pressure even when the rate is higher.

Soft Credit Pull

Find out what you qualify for without hurting your credit score. Taycor runs a soft pull with zero impact on your credit, so you get real numbers before you make any decisions at training.

Get Ready

  • Know your credit score (personal and business)
  • Have your business name, EIN, and formation date ready
  • Talk to your spouse or business partner before training if they’re part of the decision

Equipment is an investment, not an expense. If the monthly payment is less than the profit from one job, the equipment pays for itself.

18 — What To Ask Your B.D.R.

What To Ask Your B.D.R.

Real questions contractors actually ask their Business Development Representative. If any of these are on your mind, ask — nothing is off the table.

About The Money

  • “What if I don’t qualify for financing?” Taycor’s soft pull tells us within 24 hours. If you don’t qualify, we look at other options — a lower equipment tier, a shorter term, a co-signer, or starting with products only.
  • “What happens to my $499 if I cancel?” It stays as webstore credit. You can use it whenever you’re ready.
  • “What does the Client path really cost me monthly after training?” The DCU Client membership is $99/mo. I-Market and I-BOS are priced separately, and we give you those quotes when you’re ready.

About Training

  • “Can I bring my spouse or business partner?” Yes, and we encourage it if they’re part of the decision. Decisions get made faster when both people see the same thing in the same room.
  • “I’ve never done decorative concrete. Will I be behind?” No. Most contractors who come to training are new to this, and the curriculum is built for people starting from zero.
  • “What if I need to reschedule?” Tell your B.D.R. as early as possible. We’ll move you to the next available class.

About The Decision

  • “I’m not sure if I want Customer or Client yet.” That’s fine. You don’t have to decide before training. Most contractors decide at the end of Day 2 or in Week 1 after.
  • “What if I take the Fast Pass and then decide I don’t want the Client path?” Your Incredible Character Card is yours for life. The Shareholders Vision Course and DCU access don’t expire. Nothing is wasted.
  • “How do I know if TCP is right for me?” Most contractors know by the end of training. That’s why the $499 deposit exists — so you can see everything before you commit to anything more.

About The Business

  • “Can I use TCP products without being on the Client path?” Yes. The Customer path gives you full access to products, equipment, and training. The Client path adds marketing, coaching, and the business operating system on top.
  • “Is there a non-compete with my existing work?” No. TCP systems complement most existing contracting businesses. Many contractors add coatings to what they already do.
  • “What if my market is already crowded?” Bring it up in your Client Success Engineer meeting. They’ll look at your market and show you how other contractors in competitive areas positioned themselves.

Have a question not on this list? Ask it right now. Text or call your Business Development Rep, or bring it to any meeting. That’s what they’re here for.
